Toronto's CN Tower

The other day I went to Toronto's CN Tower, which was, up until last year, the tallest free standing structure on land ( a lot of specifics :P ), until Burj Dubai surpassed it. You can find more details about its height and the controversy surrounding it on its wiki page here.
I took some picture of the view of Toronto from above for your entertainment and even recorded a short clip that I posted at the bottom of the post, you can see a high resolution version of the images by clicking on them for detail :D .

Air flight peeves

I was just listening to a radio show, and they were asking their listeners to call in with their Air flight peeves so that they could compile a list. So I heard this one that made me laugh to myself in the middle of an elevator, that made everyone in it stare at me :

People who insist on sitting in the window chair; but have a bladder the size of a peanut

What are your peeves ?

The Worlds most influential Libyan - updated

The Arab Business site Arabian Business has issued its 2008 list of most influential Arabs in the World, which only had one Libyan on it :-< . The guy they nominated, Abdalla El Badri, is the current head of the OPEC cartel that is responsible for the oil production of its members and controls nearly two thirds of the World's oil reserves, of course he was nominated to this position by the Libyan Government and has been holding the position of the chariman of the Libyan National Oil corporation on an off and on basis for probably more than 15 years now. It should be noted that this is the second time he holds the position of the OPEC secretary general.

Even though he was the only Libyan nominated, he has made it to the fourth place on the list, which I think makes up a little for the lack of Libyans on the list :P . The reason given for his nomination is his defiance in the face of first world countries to increase the oil output of the OPEC members, as a means of helping the global economy. Or as he is quoted in their piece :

"If there is a recession, it won't be because of the oil price. It will be caused by the subprime mortgage crisis in the United States and other financial market problems," he defiantly told German magazine, Spiegel.

Update :

The price of oil went up today as a result of OPEC's stance on oil productivity, which was expressed in El-Badri's recent comments :

"Oil supply to the market is enough and high oil prices are not due to a shortage of crude but rather it is because of the decrease in the dollar's value, shortage of refinery capacity and some political tensions in the world,"

Children plot to attack teacher

How sick is this ???????? I mean they had Knives, handcuffs, duct tape and they were only between the ages of 8 to 10. They even split themselves into teams with different tasks to cover up their crime .................. I can only attribute this to the violence they see in movies and TV, because I can't imagine how they could have thought it up themselves at such a young age.

Libya Qualifies for Futsal World Cup Championship

I just heard this piece of news, that went largely unnoticed, from a friend and googled it online, and it seems that Libya's Futsal football ( indoor football ) team won the CAF Futsal Championship. It should be said that it is the first time that Egypt looses the Championship in three years, in the process Libya's team defeated Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and Cameroon ( isn't it strange how all the Arab teams always end up in the same group ? :-? )

This victory qualifies it, with Egypt, to play in the Futsal World Cup Championship between the 30th of September and 19th of October in Brazil. There will be 20 Teams participating so it looks like there is going to be stiff competition; but lets hope that they at least leave a good impression on the international stage.

Mabrouk to the Libyan team and good luck to all the participants :D .
