Bill Gates has just lost the title of the worlds richest man, according to this report. Bill Gates was estimated to be worth $ 59.2 billion up until the end of the second quarter ( January 1st- March 31st ) , which was $8.6 billion less than the estimated worth of Carlos Slim . The increase in Slim's worth is attributed to a 27% increase in the shares of America Movil which is considered the largest cell phone company in both America's and of which Carlos Slim is the chairman. I remember reading a while back that IT and telecommunication companies are the most profitable form of investment and that the profit from them surpasses even that of the Arms and Drug trade, its no wonder then that the richest people in the World are investors in this field.
On another note, today is July the 4th ( or at least it should be by the time anyone reads this :p ) and no I'm not talking about Independence Day :p, I'm actually referring to the birthday of Amira, the daughter of a fellow blogger ( ibeebarbie ), so Happy 4th Birthday Amira :D .

Congratulations to Mr Carlos Slim. I must admit, I love his name lol and he looks like a mexican soap opera villan :P
Bills Gates has been at the top of Forbes rich list for quite some time now. It really was time for him to give someone else a chance. And you seriously cant feel too sorry for Bill Gates. His fortune remains at a comfortable $59.2 billion.
Plus he will undoubtedly get just as much press even though he is on the number two spot!

Congratulation's to this new Mexican guy :) although I was reading this morning that one of the reasons Bill Gates was not going up the list was down to how much money he gives to charity as he is #1 in the world for charity

Do you know the truth why telecommunication and cell phone companies are so rich?
Some years ago I received a bill in my mailbox, requesting Yours Truly to pay 60.000 USD in cell phone fees! Allegedly, I had been using my cell phone 24/7 during three weeks, calling Afghanistan, Indonesia, India, South Africa, Greenland, Lebanon, Russia......
When I called the company telling them, they´ve made a mistake, they replied: "We don´t do mistakes. If you can´t pay, we drag you to court."
Well, I did let them drag me to court, and they lost. But how many people are sent ridiculous phone bills and pay, because they "have to"?
These companies are full of bad air, sucking out money from people´s pockets and financial accounts. No wonder mr. Slim is "rich".

Yeah he is donating a lot to charity, but I don't think its in the 10's of billion and it was Slim who's worth increased substantially and not the other way around :)

Thats one reason .... but its also because the operational costs are very small, the customer base is huge and most communication companies don't allow much competition, like in Egypt I think there are three mobile companies and they are actually paying the Egyptian government money to keep competition out..... all of the costs are endured at the beginning of the project after that its a downhill ride ......

Yes, alone it can't. It can help make you happier if you already are, but there is a higher probability it will make you gloomier ...... it isn't a question of money or lack of it, its a question of satisfaction you have to be content with what you have regardless of how much it is thats when you can be truly happy; because then your happiness isn't dependent on superficial worldly elements :).
oh one more thing, money isn't the objective its the means ..... people lose focus and start running after money even after achieving relative happiness and never cherish the happy moments, they sometimes never even feel the happiness because they're too busy running after money.
I loved ur 2nd comment on my last question... yes, people are too consumed looking for money that they lose time to cherish their life... its like spending ur time for ur future, but never enjoying ur present... there's always a future...u can never get there, cos its always ahead of u, but the present it always with u, why abandon it for the unreachable?
my personal theory is a bit similar to urs, yes, u have to be content with ur life, to be able to enjoy the wealth u are seeking... the money, the cash, whatever it is..
but "money cant make u happy" is something i totally disagree with... because it can.
We all work to get paid, to buy/aquire/provide/give something with the money we worked to get paid for.. no? its just a big circle PH, things complete one another thats my point...

I think I get your point ( not sure though :)) but I still disagree. First we don't all necessarily work just to get paid there are other things like contributing to our society, filling our free time; but even if we were to work only for money it doesn't prove we want the money to become happier we just need it to survive ? If we just wanted money to get happy we could choose different avenues to attain it, like stealing, like working with immoral work ethics they get you pretty rich fast and that is an option available to many but they choose not to pursue it; because they know its not just about money.
Being Libyan I know, like I'm sure you do too, many people who are filthy rich in the millions of dollars; but as you may know they aren't happy one bit they are sad, sick people who try to cover up their personal insecurities with money and I know a lot of them personally some are even relatives and I could have pursued the same path they did ( option still available :p ) but I chose not to; because I can see how fake their happiness is ...... it maybe harder for others who aren't closely acquainted to these type of people to see it but if you get to know them closely you will notice how even with all the money they have they will envy you for the simplest things their money can't buy.....

Don't worry even if you didn't its ok :p I'm not the type who gets angry over a discussion or argument and the only reason I added to my previous comment was to set an example of my point; but its not a big issue .... wasn't the purpose of the post either :p . okie, i will give u a personal example of how to me, i think money does bring happiness...
My mom has been dying to go abroad for a vacation, but cant, simply cos theres too much responsibility, and cos financially, a vacation isnot in the charts... if money was abundant, then, she would've gone with dad, relaxed themselves, got rid of the tension, and came back happy... thats what i mean...
see, i always say to my friends, that money is JUST a piece of paper that makes me happy... a means to an end... yes if i was corrupt humanbeing with no morals whatsoever no money in the world will clear my conscience, but , im talking about the good ppl, who work hard to get some money.. to support families...
why are some guys still not married yet? besides the fact that some have commiment issues,lets leave those for another time,lol. but what is the main reason? $$$$$ lol, they dont have enough to support a family, to open a house...
if money was abundant, i wouldnt have stayed here for uni, i would've gone abraod...
see, thats my point of view of why i think money could be the key to happiness... it makes life easy...

I believe thats the only way you can attain an "abundance of money" any other way would be too hard to make you happy about it :) and there are people with less money, though rich, but still aren't happy the example I presented was used because of its clarity :).
You present good examples but I'm sorry to say I still disagree even though I get your point now :). I view your examples from a different view point :p. Maybe I'm idealistic or old fashioned ..............:p.
